Philanthropy

Beta Chi Theta strongly believes in its pillar of Service to Humanity. Our unwavering conviction to this cause and our numbers nationwide have allowed us to contribute to so many causes around the nation.

There are many causes our chapters and colonies support at a local level, dedicating thousands of hours to community service. Some of these various causes include:

  • World Diabetes Foundation
  • American Cancer Association
  • St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital
  • Children’s Miracle Network
  • Special Olympics
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Beating Heart Disease
  • Alternative Spring Break
  • Relay for Life

During the Fall 2008 term, the Brothers at the University of Florida devoted their efforts to the “Beating Heart Disease” philanthropy. This campaign focuses on raising awareness of the prevailing nature of heart disease, and how it can be prevented. In October, the Brothers of Mu Colony supported the cause by inviting students and families to enjoy an evening of fun and entertainment in a haunted house (built by the Brothers). Over $800 were donated to the cause during this event, and proceeds were donated to the American Heart Association.

The Brothers of Beta Chi Theta have made serving the community an integral part of its daily function; however, advances have been made to serve our international community as well. In July 2009, a push to better serve humanity in a unique manner was made. Yogesh Rao, 8, was orphaned at a very young age and has been raised at an orphanage in India for the last 7 years. Beta Chi Theta has taken it upon itself to sponsor Yogesh and assure him a secure future. This sponsorship will provide Yogesh food, shelter, and clothing to enjoy a healthy childhood. In addition, this sponsorship will fund his schooling, beginning with elementary school and continuing through high school (covering tuition as well as necessary literature). The purpose of spreading our efforts internationally is not only to support one child, but to help that child grow to make an impact on the rest of the world.

A dedication to Service to Humanity makes Beta Chi Theta more than a “social” fraternity – it makes it a powerful organization driven to force positive change in our local communities and the world at large.
