Beating Heart Disease: Philanthropy Week

04/1/12 – 04/8/12

The brothers at Mu Chapter recently hosted our Philanthropy Week in which we conducted events to bring about awareness on heart disease and how to beat heart disease. On April 1, we threw the Beating Heart Disease Carnival with bounce houses, jousting arena, a dunk machine, and various other carnival games. On April 2nd, we held an informational forum about the dangers of heart disease and what college students can do to prevent them. We had Dr. Gupta, a cardiologist from Shands Hospital in Gainesville; give a presentation about heart disease. On April 4th, we were tabling on campus, bringing out awareness of heart disease and made cards to the children who are suffering from heart disease in the Shands Pediatric Care in Gainesville. On April 8th, we co-hosted a club party with Delta Phi Omega called Red Alert 2.0. We all had a fun experience this night while donating to charity. On April 13th, we rolled around a giant beach ball and collected donations from everyone who signed the beach ball. All in all, this philanthropy was a huge success because we collected a lot of donations and educated the public about heart disease. All the donations we collected were given to the American Heart Association. Thanks to everyone who came to our events and supported us.

Gamma Eta Social

03/28/12

The Brothers of Beta Chi Theta and the Sisters of Gamma Eta co-hosted a social mixer on March 28th at Skate Station. There, both Greek organizations enjoyed each others company and participated in recreational skating and in Go-Cart Races. While doing this, both of us got to meet and interact with all the sisters of Gamma Eta. It was a huge success and definitely a night to remember.

Relay for Life Cancer Awareness

03/23/12 – 03/24/12

The Brothers of Mu Chapter recently participated in the UF Relay For Life event hosted at the Stephen O’Connell Center on the night of March 23rd. This event is aimed to bring about awareness of cancer, celebrate the success stories of cancer survivors and raise donations to help cancer patients cope with cancer. The brothers here set up a donation booth along with other student organizations in order to collect donations for cancer patients. Our booth consisted of a mini basketball game and a video game playing station. We charged people to play games at our booth and used that money to donate it to the American Cancer Society. It was a lot of fun for our brothers and all of us were at the event for at least 10 hours.

Also, special thanks to the sisters of Alpha Kappa Delta Phi who performed which includes Roselle Derequito, Klea Jampasar, Lien Tracy Dang, Hoa Tran and Caitlyn Soriano.
